Often if you know exactly what you require, this can be completed on the phone. At other occasions you may need a qualified Gas Engineer to visit & survey your property. Some of the questions the Gas Engineer might ask you or would look for while in your property would be:
- Are you replacing an existing boiler or is this a new boiler installation?
- If you’re looking for a boiler replacement where is your boiler at the moment?
- Does your property currently have a gas supply?
- Do you need a Combi Boiler, or another boiler type such as a condensing boiler, system boiler or a traditional boiler? Note: To find out more on these boilers, please read our Types Of Boilers page.
- Is the gas supply to your property sufficient to supply the needs of your boiler & your household?
- Exactly where is the flue from your boiler?
- How many people live in your property?
- Approximately how much water do you use at the same time?
With this information they can have an overall picture regarding the needs for your property.
They will then provide you with a couple of options as to what boiler types are available to you & what is your best option. They will then give you your Boiler Installation or Replacement Quote.
Using the details, they can usually focus your options to 1 to 3 boilers. These boilers will form the base for your Boiler Installation Quote. They might all offer different manufacturers, warranties, features etc. You can then make your decision based on manufactures, price, warranty, space available, size, capacity etc. They’ll offer you a budget, mid-range & a more high priced option so that you are able to make a decision on what fits you the best with the information you have & your budget.
If this seems to be confusing do not your local boiler engineer will advise you on what your very best option is. They have many years of experience in taking care of Boiler Installations & can therefore aid your decision making when it comes down to a big purchase like a boiler installation cost.

TSome boiler systems may be more temperamental than others so switching it off for a longer time than usual could trigger an issue with your central heating. Having your boiler switched off for a prolonged period of time could also cause elements such as your valves and pump to seize up.
If your boiler is more than 10 years old it might be worth replacing it. Even if it functions fine the older it gets the more likely it is to break down. Plus it's probably much less efficient than a new boiler.
Old Back boilers are no longer safe which is why they are illegal. The conventional or old boilers have less efficiency more energy consumption and expensive maintenance. You can replace it with a new back boiler or convert to a combi system or heat only boiler.
Central heating inhibitor will need to be changed once a year or so. It will break down over time meaning minerals and rust build up once more. This means regulating your system's inhibitor intake ensuring it runs steadily and consistently. You should always top up the inhibitor every time your system is drained.
