Sometimes if you know exactly what you need, this could be completed on the telephone. At other times you might want a trained Gas Engineer to visit & survey your property. Some of the questions the Boiler Engineer might ask you or will identify while on your property would be:
- Are you replacing an existing boiler or is this a new boiler installation?
- If you’re wanting a boiler replacement where is your boiler at the moment?
- Does your property currently have a gas supply?
- Do you want a Combi Boiler, or another boiler type such as a system boiler, traditional boiler or a condensing boiler? Note: To find out more on these boilers, please read our Types Of Boilers page.
- Is the gas supply to your property adequate to supply the requirements of your household &a your boiler?
- Where is the flue from your boiler?
- How many people live in your property?
- Approximately how much water do you use simultaneously?
With this information they will get an overall picture about the requirements for your property.
They will then provide you with a number of options as to the boilers that are available to you & what is your best option. They will then provide you with your Boiler Installation or Replacement Quotation.
With the information, they can usually narrow your options to 1 to 3 boilers. These boilers will be the base for your Boiler Installation Quotation. They probably will all have different features, manufacturers, warranties etc. You have the ability to then make your selection depending on manufactures, price, warranty, size, space available, capacity etc. They will give you a budget, mid-range & a more highly-priced choice so that you can decide what fits you the best with the information you have & your finances.
If this seems difficult do not your local boiler engineer will guide you on which is your best option is. To follow building and safety regulations new gas boilers need to be installed by an installer with a Gas Safe certificate. The Gas Safe Register means your gas engineer is able to work safely and legally on your boiler.
They give out more heat (and you cant get something for nothing) so they cost more to run. The reason for doubles is to give a high output for taking up less wall space. If you put a long single in a room as against a small double (both with the same btu rating).
Turn on boiler to generate heat so chemicals start their process of cleaning turn off boiler when heat of water has reached about 45°. Reverse the power flush flow every 10 minutes. Close all radiators except one and allow it to flush through repeat this process with every radiator.
TSome boiler systems may be more temperamental than others so switching it off for a longer time than usual could trigger an issue with your central heating. Having your boiler switched off for a prolonged period of time could also cause elements such as your valves and pump to seize up.
If your boiler is more than 10 years old it might be worth replacing it. Even if it functions fine the older it gets the more likely it is to break down. Plus it's probably much less efficient than a new boiler.
Old Back boilers are no longer safe which is why they are illegal. The conventional or old boilers have less efficiency more energy consumption and expensive maintenance. You can replace it with a new back boiler or convert to a combi system or heat only boiler.
Central heating inhibitor will need to be changed once a year or so. It will break down over time meaning minerals and rust build up once more. This means regulating your system's inhibitor intake ensuring it runs steadily and consistently. You should always top up the inhibitor every time your system is drained.
